Toy store chain urges customers to shop at brick and mortar stores
The closure of toy retail chain Toys R Us has extended from its brick and mortar stores to its website. The company has ended purchases through its online store and is instead directing customers to visit one of its remaining physical retail stores.
Customers who visit toysrus.com are being greeted with the following statement, notifying them that they can no longer purchase toys, games or other items from the site:
Thanks for visiting. We have shut down the website for any purchases but our brick and mortar stores are open and holding going out of business sales. You can keep up-to-date with the sale at http://toysrusclosingsale.com and liquidation-going-out-of-business-FAQs. We encourage you to stop by your local store and take full advantage of the deep discounts and deals available. Thank you for your business and support over the years.
Sincerely, Toys”R”Us and Babies”R”Us teams.
Toys R Us announced in March that it will close or sell all of its remaining U.S. stores. Liquidation sales started at retail locations on March 23.
News of Toys R Us’ financial troubles arose in September, when the company filed for bankruptcy protection. In January came the announcement of more than 180 planned store closures across the nation. Later, in February, that number was increased to more than 380. While promises of severance benefits for retail workers were broken, a judge allowed the payout of millions in bonuses to the company’s top executives.
